My First Movie

I didn’t think I’d ever be the kind of person who could sit through an entire movie in a theater. That’s not me. Sitting still has always felt impossible, like my body and brain are both trying to go in different directions at the same time. Screens are even harder. They overwhelm me, or I lose focus, or I just can’t stay with it long enough. So for a long time, it wasn’t even something I tried to do.

But this time was different.

I went to see Project Hail Mary, and I stayed. The whole time.

That might not sound like a big deal to most people, but for me, it is. It’s huge. I’m proud of myself in a way that’s hard to explain. Not because the movie was easy to watch, but because I did something that used to feel completely out of reach. I had the right supports around me, people who understood what I needed without pushing me past my limits. That made all the difference.

The movie itself hit me in ways I didn’t expect. It’s about survival, problem-solving, and not giving up even when everything feels impossible. There were moments where the main character had no clear answers, no guarantees, and still kept going. That stuck with me. It reminded me of how things feel sometimes in my own life. Like I don’t always have a clear path, but that doesn’t mean I stop.

What really stood out to me was the idea that help can come in ways you don’t expect. The main character doesn’t do everything alone. He finds support, connection, and solutions that he couldn’t have created by himself. I think sometimes people expect independence to mean doing everything on your own, but that’s not real. Real progress comes from having the right support system, people who actually understand you and meet you where you are.

Sitting in that theater, I wasn’t just watching a movie. I was proving something to myself. That growth is possible. That with the right supports, things that once felt impossible can become real.

I didn’t just make it through the movie. I experienced it. And that means the world to me.
