Treading a New Path

Life does not end
it echoes forward

A future built on something softer
than what we were handed
Not rewritten all at once
but revised
line by line
Carefully writing each moment
deliberate, decisive, allusive
There was a time
not distant, but heavy
when love felt conditional
like standing on uncertain ground
testing each step
waiting for it to give
I remember
or maybe I don’t fully remember
but it exists nonetheless
A version of the world
where voices sharpened too quickly
where silence stretched too long
where people turned away
before they turned toward
But something shifted
Not loudly
not all at once
just enough
A hand reached instead of withdrew
A voice softened instead of rose
A pause
where harm might have lived
And we began climbing something new
Not mountains of survival
but something gentler
still difficult
still steep
Learning how to hold each other
without slipping
Grasping at connection
instead of control
Pleading
not to be right
but to understand
I cannot say when we reached it
There was no clear summit
no single moment of arrival
But here we stand
In a world that breathes differently
Where laughter spills over
without hesitation
where apologies come freely
and mean something
Where children grow
without learning fear first
They run forward
not bracing
but believing
Peace here is not silence
It is movement
steady, intentional
It is choosing
again and again
to remain open
Even when it would be easier
to close
The storms still come
They always will
But we do not face them alone
We lean into one another
shoulder to shoulder
hands steady
And somehow
that is enough
This is not perfection
It is something more real
A world still becoming
still learning
still climbing
This is not our first attempt
It will not be our last
But this time
we are not climbing alone
