The Shape of Forward

progress moves like ocean waves—

ree

not in straight lines

but in the rhythm of tides

pulling forward then back

present moments blur

into ripples of uncertainty;

each step so small

I cannot see change

yesterday's victories fade

like footprints in wet sand,

while doubt's steady hand

traces patterns in my thoughts

setbacks do not define the journey—

they are just the undertow

teaching me to swim stronger,

to breathe deeper

I believe in this strength

even when weakness shows;

the smallest wave still shapes the coast

that’s how progress flows

never rest too long

when the view seems sweet;

the ocean knows no summit,

only endless horizons to meet

worth every scar earned in the surf,

worth learning to float through pain—

progress bends with the tide

but cannot break

this resilient spirit

Posting on behalf of Murali Thatha:

Wonderful, it beautifully captures how progress isn’t a straight path, but a fluid, dynamic journey—much like ocean waves that ebb and flow.

The message is the underlying hope: progress is persistent, resilient, and transformative. A truly inspiring piece that reminds all of us to embrace our journey with patience, courage, and an unwavering spirit.

This is powerful poetry Arjun. The ebb and flow of progress is so real in our lives and it reminds me of the impermanence of both success and struggles. Keep the resilient spirit going.

I am a living witness to this phenomenon you describe in your poem. Your tenaciousness, persistence and resilient spirit that never ever gives up is a testimony and an inspiration. Some of what we easily take for granted in life is not so easy for you and many others like you and yet you never stop trying and that too with that generous and infectious smile of yours. I am so humbled and proud to be your mother. You inspire me in ways I cannot even begin to explain. We will keep marching forward - ONWARD and UPWARD TOGETHER my dear! Much love to you my dear!
